Pharmacy School Step 1

We got Brian signed up to take the PCAT last night (the admittance test for pharmacy school). He now has exactly 2 more weeks to study for it. Fortunately fall break is coming up, so he'll have the time to get some good cramming in. We were only allowed to send the PCAT results to 14 schools total (there are over 100 pharmacy schools in the nation). So last night, we had the pleasure of narrowing down schools while we were watching the Utah game (go Utes!!). We started out by finding which schools take the PCAT. The ones that don't aren't out for applying to, they just aren't worth spending the $20 and 1 of our 14 choices to send the score to them if they don't take it. One nice thing is that a lot of the schools accept the PCAT over the Pharmcas system, which is a system that Brian will apply on, and the schools he applies to can get all his info like transcripts, scores, etc. That narrowed down the list to 28 schools that take the PCAT but don't use the Pharmcas. It was a feat to narrow that list down to 13 (the Pharmcas takes one of the choices.) There were some schools I was sad to see go. I really clung to the University of Southern Illinois for a while so that Brian's sister could visit us too while she was visiting her in-laws, but it had to go. There were other's I wasn't too sad to see go (like Wisconsin and Michigan, brrr). We eventually managed to whittle down the list to schools that look like good possibilities to be accepted and areas that we'd be happy to live in. Now it's just study hard and fill out application after application after application. (PS. Utah is still in the running). Wish us luck!!! :)

Is Idaho in the running? I don't know of a school up here? Go some where fun--we'd love to visit!! Good luck cramming!

Yup, Idaho State is in the running. Boise doesn't have a pharmacy school there, but we'd be thrilled to be in Pocatello. Other than the 2 schools in Utah, that's the closest we'd be to home. :)

Best of luck on the upcoming test. We certainly don't want to see you go anywhere far but hope you can go to your first choice on the list!

Can't stand the thoughts of you moving far away, but am learning that having kids all across the country does expand our horizons - and any place we've never been to before turns into a fun place to visit, we've found. Our prayers are with you, Brian.

Have you thought of Johnson City TN? Very close to us, and it's a new program. Less than 2 years I think. (Don't know if that's good or bad though.)
