Christmas Eve

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve this year. Brian and Eric went to a party with his extended family during the day while I went to work. Then after work, I got to join in the partying. We met my parents for dinner at Texas Roadhouse. While I feel a little bad for making the waiters/waitresses work on Christmas Eve, it was nice to have a great dinner without all the work. After dinner, we headed over to Brian's parents house for their annual Christmas Eve traditions.

The kids all participated in the nativity. And this year, we had a cute little sheep in the performance.

And then Eric got a special treat from his cousins. They weren't going to be able to make it to his birthday party so they brought him a gift to open that night. What a fun treat. And he absolutly loves his new truck.

One Year

And so many others: first foods, first words, first steps, first smiles, first laughs, first teeth, first bumps and bruises. You have grown up so fast on us. You started walking right at 10 months on Halloween. What a fun treat.

You have made holidays so much more fun. We loved celebrating Easter with you...

You are a delight to have in our home. You are such a happy little boy and your giggle is so contagious. I love that you want to show us everything and tell us "see, see" over and over again. You love books and beg us to read to you all the time. It is so fun to watch you dance every time music comes on, even during a short commercial. You are a tease, turning off the t.v. and giggling when we notice. Whatever we are doing, you want to be a part of. I love that you are our little buddy. You are so social and love to meet and grin at new people everywhere we go; church, the store, out to eat. Everyone is won over by your infectious smile. It has been so much fun to watch you start to problem solve, like pulling boxes over to stand on so you can reach things. You are a little monkey crawling on and over everything.

Eric, I can't even begin to describe what a light you have brought into our lives. I thank my Heavenly Father every day for sending you to us. We love you so much and look forward to watching you continue to grow and learn.

We have had some beautiful lightning storms come through this summer. It's been fun to watch them from the safety of our home. Dinner up the canyon

Last weekend we met Brian's family up the canyon for dinner. Eric wasn't so sure how he felt about the great outdoors at first, but after some cuddle time with his cousin he was good to go.

We had a pleasant evening visiting with family and enjoying the beautiful mountains.

We made some smores for dessert, which Eric really wanted but I wasn't so sure a fire roasted marshmallow was a good idea for a 7 month old. But the rest of us really enjoyed them. We tried a few new twists with rolos inside the marshmallow, peanut butter cups, and coconut pineapple flavored marshmallows. Yum!!!

Cousins sure make the best friends.

A Sunday Walk

One of my favorite things about our house is not actually in the house, or even on our property. My favorte thng is right across the street. See,we live across the street from a cute little creek. This cute little creek has a short walking trail just perfect for a quick Sunday afternoon walk.

With a free afternoon, Brian, Eric, and I took a short stroll across the street. Well, short minus the long visit with a neighbor we met on the way. The creek is home to all sorts of birds and bugs and flowers. Today we were looking for some sandhill cranes that Brian's dad saw the day before. We didn't see the cranes, but still had plenty of material to supply our photography hobbies.

And I just have to throw in the pictures of my mountains. I love my mountains.

Farm Country

Date night

Brian surprised me today by taking off a few hours early from work. I think he's pretty fun to be around so of course this was good news to me. We used the extra family time to go out for an early dinner to Texas Roadhouse before it got too noisy and crowded for me (I had a bad experience there the last time we went with the crowds so I haven't wanted to go fight that again). We finally got to use the gift card Sean and Linzy sent us for Christmas, and boy was it a nice Christmas gift. Eric gives their rolls two thumbs up. He also seemed to think my baked sweet potato wasn't too bad either.
Now it's just too bad all three of us can't be home more often for unplanned outings.

Well, I missed the 4 month post, so this is for the last two months.

Dear Eric,

We are seeing more of your personality every day. You are such a social bug, rewarding strangers with gummy grins and giggles. Once that earns you their attention, you snuggle into my shoulder and peek over at them, laughing every time they respond. Yeah, it's pretty stinkin cute.

You are also so curious and want to experience everything around you. If it's within your reach, you are grabbing it and tasting it, especially if your dad or I are holding it. You have successfully claimed my phone as yours, That curiosity also makes you hate laying down. You want to be up looking at everything around you. It's a good thing that you're starting to learn how to sit.

Even though you are growing more and more, you are still my snugly little boy. The best part of my day is when I get home from work. You grin and reach out for me, then we get to spend a few minutes just cuddling.

In the last two months you:

Have started to roll over. You're not too interested in it though, Just enough to get back on your back when you are hating tummy time.

3 Months

Ooops, I'm really late on the 3 month post. But here it is.

Dear Eric,

Stop growing. Just stop it, k. Because honestly, you are growing up so fast every day. You are such a fun baby. More of your day is spent awake and it's fun to play with you. Bath time is one of your favorite activities. You love to splash and focus real hard on kicking your dads arm out of the way. You also love looking at pictures, having books read to you, and snuggling anything cloth.

This month was your blessing. It was such a spiritual experience to have your dad give you a priesthood blessing. You have many men in your life that honor their priesthood as the amazing gift it is. Look up to them continually. Your dad blessed you to know of the love we have for you and especially the love your father in heaven has for you.

Eric, we love you so much. You are truly a blessing in our lives. Don't ever doubt how important you are to us.

A New Toy

Eric found himself a new toy today. As I was walking out of his room with him in my arms, he lunged over my arm and stared at something on the dresser. Was it the rattle? Nope. The bath toys? No. So I leaned him over to see if he would show me what he wanted. What was it that Eric reached for?

A burp cloth that my Relief Society dropped by for us a few days ago.

So I scooped up the burp cloth and sat down with him while he played with it.

He was one happy boy and I'm wondering why I've ever spent money on toys when this boy loves burp cloths and blankets.

2 Months

Okay, I'm a little late to the game but am goimg to start copying Bill and Steph's idea. They take a picture of their child with the same stuffed animal every month for the first year so you can see the growth. I missed the first month, but here he is at 2 months with a stuffed "Kota"

Dear Eric,

You are two months old already. Wow, how time flies. Your dad and I were talking the other day about how well you fit into our lives and we can't believe that you haven't always been with us. I count my blessings every day that God has allowed you to come to our home and trusted us to raise you. I only hope that I can be the mother you deserve and help you realize your full potential. Your personality is showing up more and more each day. I live for your beg gummy grins. Having to go back to work has been the hardest thing I have ever done. I spend every day with my heart and arms aching to hold you near, but I know that you are in good hands while I am gone. You have so much potential Eric. You were born to be a leader. I can tell you are full of love for others. You love life and all it has to offer and I am so excited to help you explore and learn everything this world has to offer.

This month you....

Started smiling. Now you reward us with your smiles several times a day
Love playing on your play mats. You have a little octopus that hangs from one that you love to bat at and a hidden mirror on the other that you love to see yourself in.
Discovered moving shadows. The first time you noticed them, I was rocking you to sleep. You were staring at the wall while your head started drooping to my shoulder. When you saw the motion, you popped your head up and toward the wall to see what it was, then looked at me with a face full of awe and amazement. How much fun. Since then, I've noticed you reaching for shadows on the walls while I change you.
Hold your head up for several seconds during tummy time. You can even smoothly lift your head and turn to the other side.
Sit propped up in the corner of a couch or on my lap
Babble to your dad and I
Are growing so big. At your two month appointment you weighed 13.58 lbs and are 24.25 inches long, which puts you in the high 80 percentile range for both.
Do not sleep through the night. That's okay though because those middle of the night feedings are some pretty special moments for me. Holding you in the dark rocking you back to sleep is a pleasure to this mommy that misses you so much during the day
Love playing games with your dad. You "bonk" daddy's nose. You also tease him when you nap in his arms. You start to peak your eyes open and hurry and shut them when he looks down at you.

A year ago

Last year, I had one wish as I blew out the candles on my birthday cake. The same wish I had been making for two years. Hope that this particular wish was ever going to be granted was beginning to fade. This year, I spent my birthday cuddling with my wish. It was a good day.

Brian and I didn't spend New Years Eve at any parties this year. We didn't watch fireworks, play games, go out to dinner, or any other traditional ways you ring in the new year. We welcomed 2011 in the best way possible, but snuggling our hours old son.

Eric Brian was born at 5:09 PM on December 31, 2010.

**Birth Story

On Christmas morning, I could tell things had started to happen. I couldn't stand or walk for more than a couple minutes without getting contractions. As much as I expected to go into full blown labor soon, my contractions stayed irregular and unpainful throught the whole weekend and into the next week. Finally my weekly appointment rolled around on Wedensday. This was the first one since the 9 week appointment that Brian was able to come to with me. I suspect that he had a feeling it would be a big appointment, and it was. After talking to the doctor he let us know that he could schedule an elective induction if we wanted. Wahoo, the baby was coming.

We scheduled the induction for Friday the 31st, New Years Eve :) I know it seems like we were aiming for a baby New Year or the tax deduction, but our decision was actually based on Brian having time off work starting that day. My entire labor experiance was as lovely as labor can be. We showed up at the hospital and my sweet nurse, Heidi, was ready and waiting to show me to my room. I got all settled in for a long wait. Then the resident dr. stopped by to okay my induction plan, my dr, stopped by a bit later to chat with me, and Heidi started the iv after an unsuccesful attempt to find a vein in my right arm and then blowing out the first iv attempt in my left arm.

Then the waiting game began. Brian watched college bowl games to pass the time while I did crossword puzzles and slept. My wonderful anesthisiologist gave me the epidural before I really needed it. He was even very careful to not show me the needle or tell me what he was doing. Finally, just after 4, I let the nurse know that I felt like pushing. After 20 minutes of pushing (which is hard work even with an epidural), Eric was born at 5:09 PM. Brian was by my side through the whole process and his support and smiles kept me going.

Hearing Eric cry for the first time ~ Brian cutting the umbilical cord ~ When they put Eric on my chest he lifted his head and just looked at me ~ Our first family prayer ~ Watching Brian change his first diaper and give his first bath ~ Being able to calm my baby just by holding him ~ Waking up with Eric in my arms and realizing that it was all real :)

Baby Shower- My Side

Last Saturday was my baby shower on my side of the family. Wow, words cannot even begin to express my gratitude to everyone for such a wonderful event. Stephanie opened her home to the whole party, she even got my brother to slave over a hot stove all day with her making yummy soups. Heather made some amazing cupcakes and mini pies, Makinzee made some more yummy desserts, my mom brought her amazing cheese ball plus all sorts of sides, my grandma made a yummy relish tray. And I'm sure there was so much work that I'm completely forgetting to mention here. My mom even roped her friend into helping out.

And then all the wonderful guests who came. It was great to see them all. Several of my close cousins came, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, my grandma my mom's church friend, and even a high school friend that I haven't seen in ages, (and of course my wonderful family that threw the shower). What a treat to see all of them. That was the best gift ever. We did miss my Linzy and Tabatha there. Unfortunately coming from Maryland for a baby shower just isn't all that feasible. We can't wait to see them next summer though.

Some fall happenings

It's been a gorgeous fall. All two weeks of it. The weather reports and the wind outside are telling me that fall may be over before it really began. I'm glad we had a couple weekends to do some fun fall things.

In the beginning of October, Brian's brother bought a new trailer and they took it up the canyon camping for it's maiden voyage. Brrr, they are a lot tougher than I am. The whole family met up there for a yummy Sunday dinner of dutch oven chicken and ribs.

Brian went up the canyon a few weeks later to break in his brothers new Jeep and go off-roading. I had to work, plus I don't think bumpy roads are exactly okay for me in my current condition. They had a blast and the fall colors were beautiful.

Gratitude

I found this song last year on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas album (even though it really isn't a Christmas song, but a lullaby). I listened to over and over again through the season last year just hoping and praying that one day I would be teaching a child about this world we live in. Tonight the song came up on my itunes. I haven't listened to it since Christmas time, but tonight I let it play even if it isn't Christmas yet. I sat there holding my swollen belly and feeling little limbs poke at my hands and couldn't help but contrast the hopelessness I was beginning to feel last December to today. Instead of sobbing tears of hopelessness and want, I cried tears of happiness and gratitude. I have been blessed far more than I deserve and am so grateful for all my blessings. But tonight, I am especially grateful for this little life growing strong and healthy inside me. I only hope I can be the kind of mommy he deserves.

The bug

I've been bit by the homemaking bug. Something about the fall crisp in the air makes me want to pull out my canning supplies and store food. This weekend the homemaking bug produced 19 jars of strawberry jam (my first attempt at making jam ever).

And 2 yummy loaves of banana bread. Hey, a girl can only deny her cravings for so long.

We finally said goodbye to our dear Volvo, Vua (affectionately named by my baby sister, Heather). Vua was a good car. We bought her while in Park City for the weekend after my Infiniti was totaled in a most traumatic manner. Vua has seen us through many years. She had carried us and our trusty dog all over the valley. She bravely put herself on the line when a car behind me on the freeway failed to stop in time, thus protecting me from any bodily harm. But Vua was getting old. She had put many long hard miles on her tires and was having a hard time maintaining a good temperature in the hot Utah winters. It was time for her to retire to an easier life.

As a replacement we bought this new to us Acura (still unnamed if you want to help us out). We hope to have many new adventures and trips with our new car. She had plenty of cargo room and even some fun features like a navigation system. She may even have working blue tooth and an iPod attachment one day. Maybe.

Catch-up

Wow, so can I say I can't believe I've let it go this long without posting. Aaack. Anyway, here's a quick catch-up of some of the highlights for the last couple months.

Brian and I walked for graduation from the University. We both still have a couple classes left, but the ceremony is only held once a year. We're almost official college graduates!!!!

So many people that we care about came to support us. It really meant a lot to have all of you there. Thank you!!

In June, Brian and I took a trip to Yellowstone with his family. My mom was able to let us rent a townhouse from the doctors that she works for. It was such a fun (but cold) vacation, even if I did spend a lot of it sick.

The elk wasn't so happy about posing for the camera, and let Brian know by being a typical teenager and sticking it's tongue out.

One highlight of the trip was coming across this grizzly not too far off the road eating an antelope. He didn't seem to mind the crowd too much as long as we kept our distance. This was a once in a lifetime animal sighting.

After dinner, he wandered off to digest and do some people watching.

We were lucky enough to spot every animal on the park map, except my elusive moose. One of the new ones for this trip was a big horn sheep ram. He was right off the road too. I love his curly horns. Overall we also ended up seeing 18 bear. 2 of which were pretty close.

But, the best thing that happened to us in the last two months was finding out we are finally expecting a baby!!!

Brian and I are so happy that we will be welcoming a new baby to our home this January (hopefully not December).

Here's my 4 month pregnant belly. It's so fun to see the baby start to pop out. And I'm pretty sure that I'm even starting to feel a few flutters here and there. We find out in a few weeks what it is, so we'll keep you posted on that as well.

A Day of Rest

Sunday afternoon was just perfect to go for a walk. The sun was shining and the trees and flowers were all in full bloom.

I love this big garage with just a tiny little VW Bug parked in the middle. Don't you?

It's always fun to go with Brian while he's taking pictures. He's really been getting good at photography, even if he won't admit it (and I think he's rather hot when he's focusing on getting the right shot but that's just between you and me)

Brian was sustained and set apart as an assistant ward clerk on Sunday, which means busy Sunday's for both of us.

It was my first Sunday conducting in Relief Society. I was so nervous. I've been in nursery so long that I can't remember the order of things anymore. And there were all these fliers and announcements to hand out. Anyway, I'm sure I made a fool of myself up there, but whatever.

I really love the sisters that I work with in my calling now. The each have wonderful skills and talents they bring to the presidency. I just am in awe of them and their abilities, their confidence, and their love for the sisters in the ward. I have a lot to learn from them.

I blame school

Oh my goodness, I promise one day I will get back to blogging on a regular basis. I have so many cute pictures to share but days and days go by without me being able to spend time updating the blog. It's all schools fault though, not mine at all ;) On a plus note though, Brian and I will be walking on May 7. We both have summer classes to take, so it's kind've anti-climatic. And we each have one final down. There is an end in sight.

Easter Pictures

Well, I'm a little behind on my blogging, if you haven't noticed yet. Our 2010 Easter was absolutely fabulous. I loved that we got to listen to our Prophet and Apostles speak to us on the same day that we remember the resurection of Christ. What a spiritual feast. I learned so much that I'm going to have to spend a lot of time re-reading all the talks.

We spent the day visiting both sides of the family. I love all of my parents, grandparents, siblings, in-laws, nieces, and nephews so much. It is such a treat to be able to spend time with them. As an extra bonus, we also got to celebrate Brian's mom's birthday and my dad's birthday.

Bike Ride

Brian and I went for a bike ride Saturday. You see, we have to be able to ride 40 miles by the end of June for this. That's going to take a lot of riding between now and then.

It was pleasant, just the two of us riding and talking. No distractions from t.v., or computers, or homework.

We rode 4 miles. That's 1/10 of the way there. Along the way we stopped to take pictures of the birds and cows and horses.

And I totally rocked the bike helmet, don't you think?

My Testimony

I couldn't let Easter go by without sharing my testimony of Jesus Christ. Over the past year, my testimony has been strengthened as I have had to put my trust and faith completely in the Lord. I have learned that my faith and relationship with God and Christ is the only thing that really matters in this world. It is only through the atonement that I am able to return to live with my Father in Heaven. In the end, that is what is important and it doesn't matter if all the dreams and hopes I have for this life ever come true or not as long as I have the gospel. I know that Christ lives. That he was resurected and broke the bands of death that we may be resurected someday. I know this with all my heart. He is my Saviour, my redeemer, and my Lord. What a wonderful gift we have been given.

Sisters

When my mom was expecting Heather, I just knew she was a girl. With four older brothers, I desperately needed a little sister. My 7 year old self had enourmous amounts of faith that my Heavenly Father would grant my deepest desire.

To this day, my sister remains my dear friend. On Thursday, we had a sisters night out to Legally Blonde the Musical.

Our seats were a stark contrast from where we sat during Wicked. The far back of the theater instead of front row, but even with with being the furthest away from the stage possible we still enjoyed the show.

I am still so glad that my wish was granted 21 years ago. I couldn't ask for a better sister.

A new toy and a goal

My first spinning class planted a demon inside me. A demon that watched bike races, and thought "I could do that." A demon that fondly remembered days growing up riding my bycicle everywhere known to man. That demon whispered to me that cycling was my one true exercise. When I run, the misery shows all to strongly on my face, when I try aerobics my feet stumble and trip miserably in the wrong direction, same goes for dancing. But cycling, ahh now that's another story. When I cycle, I can smile through my pain. My feet stay solidly on pedals and run very little risk of getting tripped up. That demon whispered in my ear, "buy a bike. You need a bike."

Last week the demon reared its ugly head even stronger when I reveived the poster to sign up for my works MS bike ride team. I told Brian of my desire for a bike all my own. One that I could ride along river trails and take to the beach, one that I could hook a bike trailer up to when we have children and take them to the library, one for family home evening bike rides. Brian supported my desire and we began our search for the perfect bicycle. Today, on a whim, we stopped by a local bike shop and I found this beauty. I think it was made just for me, so as an early graduation gift and using some of my birthday money we picked it up. I took it for a ride around my apartments today and decided that the tour de france is definitely out of my skill level, but the 40 mile MS bike ride may not be. So with my new toy comes the goal to be ready for the ride by the end of June. Wish me luck with my training.

With both sides of our family close by, birthday celebrations end up lasting a full week around here.

On my birthday, I got to join my mom and my little sister for lunch at Pei Wei. Yummy. I love both of them so much and it was great to spend time visiting with them. A big thank you for making my birthday special.

On Sunday, we went to my brothers house for a joint birthday party. My sister's birthday is 5 days before mine, so as we've gotten older we get to have a joint party, like twins. I always wanted a twin so I think this is great.

My nieces and nephews are so cute, and I absolutly adore spending time with them.

After a few years of having my wishes not come true, I tried my luck with letting the kids blow out my candles for me this year. Let's hope their breath is luckier than mine.

For months, Brian and I have been anxiously watching the progress of a cafe being built within walking distance of our apartment.

All our waiting paid off this week when the cafe finally opened....

And let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

Every Saturday, while I am at work, Brian and his dad take off hunting for the perfect picture. Photography has been a shared passion for them recently. They have their favorite spots; the tree near his dad's office where the hawk always sits, the nearby field with the geese, and the lake. My Testimony of the Savior

I have felt the need to share my testimony of the Savior here for quite some time now. This seems like the perfect time with Christmas coming this week. I really wish that I could simply transfer my memories and experiances to others that they may feel know of my testimony but because I can't, you will have to deal with my fumbling and awkward writing to try to convey how I feel.

I know that Jesus is the Savior of the world, that he lives and atoned for our sins. Through the last year, as Brian and I have struggled to start our family, my faith and testimony of the Christ and his Atonement has increased so much. The Savior has taken my pain and heartache away and replaced it with faith and patience. He has not given me what I want, but instead has giving me what I need If given the choice, I don't think I would have ever chosen to struggle having children, but I would never give up the lessons that I have learned and the relationship that I have gained with my Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. The best gift I have ever been given is the birth, ministry, sacrifice, and resurrection of our Savior. He is my redemer and Lord.

We've all known this day was coming. Brian's brothers dog, Hunter has been growing old.

He reached his limit last night. He was in too much pain to justify being selfish and keeping him here any longer.

Hunter was a good family dog, who loved nothing more than to be around his people.

He was the guard dog, dutifully protecting the home.

He was an outdoors dog, enjoying camping and laying outside while yardwork was done.

He was an adventerous dog, escaping with his cohort Radar and terrorizing the neighborhood.

Hunter was a good dog. What better complement to characterize man's best friend.

We will truly miss him.

Boys club

This year they are fishing. Somewhere in southeast Utah called Boulder Mountain. I don't know, but it sounds cold.

Dear Lizzies has just about anything sparkly or frilly you could want.

Last week I was able to share this adorable find with my mom, sisters, and Grandma.

We ate a delightful lunch tucked away in a corner of the bistro.

They were so kind and made us feel like family the entire time.

The only problem came when all of us tried to treat the others to lunch. Hmmmm, how did the bithday girl end up being the one to pay for everyone?

General Conference

It was a wonderful General Conference again this October.

What a blessing to be able to listen to our Prophet and Apostles speak to us twice a year. The members of this church truly are blessed,

The wet, dreary weather outside made it a perfect day to curl up with family and watch the session.

This year, we went to Park City to watch conference. Almost the entire family was there.

You know, Brian and I both have amazing families. We truly are blessed.

I love spending time with my nieces and nephews. My sisters are all so kind to share their children with me.

They understand that sometimes, a woman just needs a chance to take care of children.

I truly am blessed.

Isn't she gorgeous. Even when she's pulling faces at her Uncle.

In fact, they are all gorgeous.

My ward Relief Society issued a goal for all the sisters this month. They asked us to prayerfully consider a question and listen for the answer during the conference session. I found my question last week.

President Monson repeated my exact question word for word this morning in his talk on service.

The rest of his talk plus the whisperings of the spirit gave me my answer.

I have truly been blessed.

Last night we made pizza and watched Bedtime Stories at his place. Sometimes he takes me out to dinner or a movie. Other times we spend the night playing Mario Kart on the Wii.

My eyes used to be my favorite feature. I never had much self confidence about my appearance growing up, but I did love my eyes.

Grave's Disease took my thyroid, but the most noticible thing it took from me was the love for my eyes. The change has caused me some embarasement and frustration. But no more. Today I am declaring liberation from my embarasement. I am who I am, bug eyes and all. In celebration of this liberation I present you with my least favorite picture of myself and I'm proud of it :)

**PS. I'm not using this post to beg for compliments, I just wanted to share that I've come to accept my changed appearance for what it is. But if you must compliment, I guess I might be able to handle it ;)

Labor Day

Our Labor Day was spent enjoying the last few rays of summer sun. The day started out with joining my family for target shooting.

Heather's boyfriend convinced her to actually shoot a gun. I'm guessing she must kinda like the guy.

Bryce Canyon

In July, Brian and I took a trip to Bryce Canyon with some of the Allen clan. Bill, Jayne, and Emily all ran in the 1/2 marathon. Brian's parents, Kevin, and Mary and the kids all got up early to see them cross the finish line. Brian and I stayed in bed, it was chilly and his arms were cozy. But, we heard from a good source that they did great. Emily even took first place in her division. Yeah Emily!!!!

Our first time staying in one of these. The tepee was surprisingly roomy, warm, and waterproof which we were glad for on our last night of the trip.

One of the most amazing things to do in Bryce is to hike down through the hoodoo's. A few years ago, we found an amazing hike starting at Bryce Point, hiking 1/2 of the peekaboo trail, and coming up Wall Street. It's 4 miles of trekking through hot climbs and steep descents, but it worth the pain and misery for such breathtaking beauty.

Our third new niece this year made her apperance this morning. Miss Avery was born this morning weighing a whopping 9 pounds. We got to visit her this evening and she's a beautiful healthy little girl. It's so exciting to have so many new nieces this year. Both sides of our family are drowning in pink this year.

On another note, our niece Angela who was born a month premature at the end of May, has been showing up to a couple family parties. I've been in heaven getting to hold and play with her.

The end of another semester

The completion of finals in our house is always rewarded with a trip out to dinner. The end of this last semester was no exception to the rule. Brian and I left our last finals, and drove straight down to a SL treasure (and one of our favorite pizza joints).

Litza's is one of those places that treats you like family. It's nestled in a nondescript building along 4th south. The food was delicious as always.

And the company was marvelous.

If the fancy ever strikes you for pizza, try it out. In fact, give us a call and we just might join you.

One of the biggest scams we see are "free trials." You've all seen them out there. Try this or that miracle cure, for free. However, if you read the fine print you'll find that free isn't really free. Generally by accepting the free tial, you are agreeing to pay an extraordinary amount in shipping and signing up for a monthly/weekly/etc shipement to be sent and billed to you. When it comes time to cancel this shipement, the company will be difficult to get a hold of. If you have to give a card number for your free tiral, it isn't free.

Brian's mom called us on Thursday to let us know she got the condo in Park City for the weekend and that we were invited up. I was able to take a few hours vacation the next day, so we took her up on the offer. We enjoyed our evening with family and a movie.

Friday morning we went out for a nice breakfast. I had eggs benedict, yummy. The whole morning Brian had been asking me if I really needed to go into work, so imagine my pleasure when I got a text from work saying that it was slow and I should just stay up in Park City

We ran home and grabbed more clothes, then came back in time to watch our nieces and nephew go swimming.

And we got to see the Canyons fireworks show. Jayne, Kevin, and I went down and watched it from the hot tub, while Brian stayed on our balcony and took pictures.

Health Care

Okay, I normally try not to get political here, but this is such an important issue to me that I have to spread the word. As we all know, President Obama is trying to rush legislation through for a national health care program. Regardless or your party standings, I think this is something that should not be rushed, and needs a lot of investigation. A few issues that have me concerened with a national plan are:

1) The increased cost. I calculated that currently, I pay about 20% of my income to taxes and health care. It seems to me that countries with national health care coverage average in the 30-40% tax range. I personally can't afford to cover health care for those who have chosen to spend their money on other things like bigger houses, etc....because remember, we do already have health care for the poor. Those without health care are maybe not rich, but they have chosen to sacrifice health care for other things. I also don't want to provide health care for people who get paid "under the table." If they aren't reporting it as income, they aren't paying their share of taxes. Yes, I do know that Obama is trying to not have people making under $250000 annually have an increased cost, but 1-is that really going to happen, and 2-is it fair to ask people who have worked hard to get where they've gotten to pay for my health care?

2) Lack of incentive for pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs. The majority of all new drugs are researched and developed in America. There is no financial benefit to develop new drugs in other countries. This has not been addressed as far as I can see in Obama's plan

3) Shortage of doctors. This is extremely important to me. I have my vision today because a doctor was able to get me in for next day surgery. Would that happen under a national health care program or would treatment be caught up in beurocratic paperwork. I also was treated quickly for my Grave's Disease. Under a national health care, I would have been forced to take a thyroid reducing drug until it stopped working. While this was already an option for me, I didn't feel right about treating my thyroid with the reducing drug, because it generally does stop working. What if it stopped working in the middle of a pregnancy? I want to be able to make my own health care choices, not a committee in Washington. Obama has addressed this by giving funds to train more doctors, but if there is no money to be made in medicine, are people really going to pursue such a gruelling carreer?

Please understand, I do think our health care system is broken. However, I don't think the solution is to rush a national health care program. Let's take time to explore other options and persue more freedom instead of less.

Our zoo adventure

On one of my rare Saturdays off work, we received a phone call from Brian's brother inviting us to tag along on their trip to the zoo. Brian's sister was able to come along too, so we ended up with a big fun group. It's so much fun to see our nieces and nephew watch the animals.

This bird show is one of the best I've seen with a wide variety of birds, and a lot of low flyovers the audiance.

Playing Catch-Up

We have had such a fun summer already that I haven't had time to keep up with blogging. Here's a catch up of just a couple of the fun things we've done.

Over Father's day weekend, Brian's parents and brother got a camping site up the canyon. We didn't ever camp with them, but got to run up and visit for dinner a couple times. The first night we went up for dinner, it rained so hard we all had to cram Bill and Mary's trailer for dinner. It was a tight squeeze, but we still had loads of fun.

After dinner, Alyssa hammed it up for the camera.And we saw a dear on our drive home.

The next weekend was our hometown annual celebration. We met everyone for the parade and a dinner of shish-ka-bobs after....yum

Look who came to the Wal-Mart my Credit Union is in last week. It's Ashley Tisdale (aka. Sharpay from High School Musical). It was a mess, there were so many people there. She seemed like she was really good with the kids, and so many little girls left the store walking on air. I can see why their moms would brave the crowds and sit in a store all day to give them this experiance.

Brian's sister Jayne and her husband Kevin have lived in the same neighborhood as us for not quite a year. In that time, we have been the recipients of many fun impromptu visits and even a dinner invite, which we have yet to repay (sorry Jayne and Kevin, one day I promise we'll have you over). As an added treat, they sometimes bring over some extra dinner or desser to share. Hence, my abandonment of all things reasonable for dinner tonight in favor of these yummy treats. They were as delicious as they look.

Ps. I really did force down some real food tonight. Just after my fill of cookies instead of before.

Okay, I promise this is my last post from this Yellowstone trip. The absolute best part of every Yellowstone trip is spending time with people I love. Thanks again Bob and Joni for letting us crash your vacation.

Every time we go to Yellowstone with Bob and Joni, we get to see at least one bear. This year we were treated with 6 bear sightings. I think two of them were the same bear, but on different days so we get to count it twice, right?

One of my favorite parts of Yellowstone is seeing the wildlife. This year was no different, we were able to see a variety of animals including one I had never seen before.

Outside of Mammoth we saw several bighorn sheep, including one Mama with 3 babies.

The sheep without the babies did come down a lot closer to the road.

The Eagle's nest was in its same spot again this year. We even caught an Eagle peeking out once.

Sometimes it's easy to forget how amazing the buffalo herds in Yellowstone are. So, ta-dah.....a full post dedicated to Yellowstone buffalo.

Our second morning in the park, they were herding the buffalo down the mountain into valley. It was pretty cool to watch and worth the long traffic jams that it caused.

This would be the coolest job in the world, herding buffalo from horseback. We did see a cowboy fall off his horse. It looked like the worst thing he hurt was his pride though.

Yellowstone- Geysers and Hot Springs

The geysers are one of my favorite parts of Yellowstone. It's easy to forget that they are part of nature and not just a Bellagio water show. We didn't do much geyser watching this trip, but we did see the classic Old Faithful from the not so classic back side. We also saw Beehive geyser go off from a distance. As with Mammoth, the extra water from spring runoff made the hot springs extra vibrant.

I can't believe it has already been two weeks since our trip to Yellowstone. A big thank you to Bob and Joni for inviting us along, and to Joni's family for letting us intrude on their family vacation. We had a wonderful time, and came back with hundreds of pictures. Don't worry. I have whittled them down a little, but there are still loads of favorites. Today's installment is Mammoth Hot Springs. The past few years we've been up there, the springs have looked like they were dying. This year, the spring runoffs made Mammoth vibrant with color. What a reassurance to see.

I hope none of you ever need this tip, but I'm sharing it anyways just in case. If you realize you won't be able to make payments on your bills due to a job loss, illness, etc....contact your creditors before your payment is due. Most companies are more than willing to skip one payment or allow you to pay interest only if they know ahead of time.

Brian and I gained a new niece this week. Miss Angela Lyn was born on Sunday afternoon. She came a little earlier than expected so we don't get to hold her for a bit, but she is absolutely gorgeous. We're so happy to have her in our lives and can't wait for her to come home.

Mothers Who Know Honor Sacred Ordinances and Covenants.... These mothers have made and honor temple covenants. They know that if they are not pointing their children to the temple, they are not pointing them toward desired eternal goals. These mothers have influence and power.

Mothers Who Know Are Nurturers... This is their special assignment and role under the plan of happiness. To nurture means to cultivate, care for, and make grow. ... Helping growth occur through nurturing is truly a powerful and influential role bestowed on women.

Mothers Who Know Are Leaders....In equal partnership with their husbands, they lead a great and eternal organization....These wise mothers who know are selective about their own activities and involvement to conserve their limited strength in order to maximize their influence where it matters most.

Mothers Who Know Are Teachers.... That is influence; that is power.

Mothers Who Know Do Less.... They permit less of what will not bear good fruit eternally. They allow less media in their homes, less distraction, less activity that draws their children away from their home. Mothers who know are willing to live on less and consume less of the world's goods in order to spend more time with their children—more time eating together, more time working together, more time reading together, more time talking, laughing, singing, and exemplifying.

Mothers Who Know Stand Strong and Immovable... Latter-day Saint women should be the very best in the world at upholding, nurturing, and protecting families.

This well-known talk by Sister Beck set the bar high for mothers. But, not too high for the mothers in my life. You see, my mothers have been living their lives to this standard before Sister Beck even thought to address the topic in Conference. So, thank you to all the mothers in my life. Thank you Mom for always being there for me, for raising me, and teaching me the important things in life. Thank you to my Mother-In-Law for raising a wonderful son and for accepting me as another daughter. Thank you to my Grandmothers for always having a big smile and warm hug for me. Thank you to my Sister-In-Laws for showing me through example how to be wonderful Mothers. Thank you to Mothers everywhere for sacrificing your wants to raise your wonderful children.
